Introducing SHitat hASimanim, a revolutionary system designed for the purpose of remembering Gemara.  Rabbi Hasida said in Masechet Eruvin, "The only way to aquire Torah is with signs ("simanim").  In the familiar Haggadah of Pesah, Rabbi Yehuda gave signs to remember each of the ten plagues.  Our great sages of recent memory, Rabbi Haim Volozhin and Rabbi Abraham Yitzah HaCohen Kook, among others, all used signs similar to those of SHitat hASimanim.

For more than ten years, Rabbi Yehoshua Mordechai Schmidt, shlita (Rosh Yeshiva Shavey Shomron and Rabbi of Shavey Shomron), has compiled signs for each page of the Gemara to facilitate learning.  As of today, fourteen booklets of SHitat hASimanim have been published.  They include Masechtot:  Berachos, Shabbos, Pesachim, Succah, Taanis, Megillah, Moed Katan, Chagigah, Sotah, Gittin, Kiddushin, Bava Kamma, Sanhedrin, and Makkos.

SHitat hASimanim is a mnemonic memorization method of key words designed to help the student learn and remember Gemara.  How does the method work?  A sign is given for every page of Gemara according to the content and page number.  Giving the student of Gemara, a collection of instant trigger words that sends him back to the pages learned.  Incorporating SHitat hASimanim into Daf Yomi or Gemara studies enables a person to recall that which was just learned today, yesterday, or even last year.

Already in use by thousands of Gemara students throughout Israel and around the world, SHitat hASimanim is a proven method that has seen tremendous results in yeshiva programs, Daf Yomi, chavrusa studies, and from teachers, rabbis, and students.  Every day our office and distribution manager receive numerous calls and emails requesting free copies, so much so, that we are unable to meet the demand financially.

The Institute of SHitat hASimanim currently operates as a non-profit organization.  Our goal is to increase the level of Torah learning within klal Israel at all levels and ages.  An unprecedented number now learn Daf Yomi - Gemara.   (35,000 attended Siyum HaShas in 1990 compared to over 100,000 in 2012).  SomeJews are opening a masechet Gemara for the first time in their lives; others are re-opening one after years away from any connection to Torah study.  You can help support us in this great mitzvah of Torah learning by helping print SHitat hASimanim.  May we see a speedy return of all klal Israel to Torah and mitzvoth!
